The Peninsula

The Peninsula of Iowa City is formed by an oxbow of the Iowa River. It has scenic vistas in all directions from the hilltop, which was once the site of a small farm. The site has a gently rolling topography, and is edged by green spaces that include ravines with mature stands of trees. The woodlands slope slowly down to a grassy park which contains the City wellfield. Ravines along the Iowa River define the eastern and western boundaries, while the Elks Golf Course abuts to the north and east. In a visionary public/private partnership, the City purchased the land, established the open space park, commissioned the plan, and is now working with developers to create the neighborhood.
