Rue Sainte-Jean

Rue Sainte-Jean changes use throughout the day:

Daytime use

In the morning, the cafe's planters and barricades are tucked up against the building.

During the day, the carriageway is used conventionally, for slow-moving car traffic.

In the late afternoon, restaurateurs rearrange the space, changing the sidewalk to dining area and the carriageway to shared space.

By evening, the carriageway has changed from car space, to shared space, then to pedestrian-only space.

Before the city worker has even finished erecting the barricades each evening, the strollers and buskers occupy the space.
