Boulevard Central District Action Plan

 

In January 2020, Dover, Kohl & Partners conducted a one-week design workshop in Amherst, meeting with the Town and Boulevard Central District property owners and stakeholders to test the potential for future development under the Mixed-Use Zoning District. The DK&P team created plans and illustrations showing how the area can transform with a new network of streets and public spaces as well as future mixed-use developments on key sites. The plan also includes an expanded street network framed by building frontages which create smaller, walkable blocks to provide interconnectivity among residents, businesses, and the surrounding area. Enhanced transit travels along tree-lined, multimodal, complete streets while parks and community gathering areas are integrated into the overall pattern of development. Building upon the initial workshop, DK&P prepared an Action Plan that depicts and describes the vision for future land use and transportation options and defines next steps for the Town to implement the vision.
